Re:Sight
Re:Sight
With the increasing closures of day centre activities and services since COVID-19, we found ourselves in the same boat as many people: with a very bored and confused son and brother, with nowhere to go, and nothing to do. Services that used to allow for the personal growth and achievement of disabled persons, however small, have now all but disappeared, with the national focus being on community-facing activities. This simply doesn't work for everyone.
After two long years of waiting for things to "go back to normal" we decided to create what we believe is missing: a day centre service for our son and others like him who feel lost at sea, left behind by services that no longer suit their needs.
Re:Sight is a day centre set in the heart of the quiet and beautiful Rusper, in West Sussex. Deliberately chosen for its location, Re:Sight allows our individuals to thrive in a scenic location without the interruption and hustle and bustle of every day life - and because we specialise in supporting adults who are visually impaired with profound learning difficulties and/or autism, the calm and peaceful countryside fits our service users needs to a tee.
We are looking to add a refreshing view to the way in which services are currently provided in West Sussex by providing a safe and pleasant environment that focuses on the individual.
Using real-life experience and with a thorough understanding of what families are enduring on a daily basis, we can help to support loved ones with the same fervour we support our own son and brother.
By ensuring that tailored personal achievement plans are in place for each individual, and setting reasonable and achievable targets for the same, each service user can begin their journey with us safe in the knowledge that they are on a path to success, with us cheering them along every step of the way.
Our aim is to help individuals to live fulfilling, ambitious lives and to achieve their full capabilities: because everyone should be enabled to do so as far as possible, in whichever capacity they need.
Incorporating music and sound, smell, taste and touch into each of our workshops, we seek to give our service users experiences that allow all of their senses to come alive and work together to bring our sessions to life. Each workshop is carefully planned and highly versatile in nature, thereby capable of delighting a range of our most to our least verbal service users.
Here, we allow our minds to run wild, creating art work through a number of art and craft materials and resources. All artist's are supported to create a piece of work is valued, and every effort is celebrated.
